Primary Care Prescribing Committee - The Primary Care Prescribing Committee (PCPC) meets on the third Tuesday of every month. The Clinical Executive has given PCPC decision making authority. Membership includes representatives from primary care and the CCG, it reports to the Clinical Executive and the Primary Care Committee.

Quality Prescribing Safety Scheme (QPSS) - The Quality Prescribing Safety Scheme (QPSS) is a quality-based scheme for general practice. The focus is on education, peer review, practice specific action plans and polypharmacy reviews. It is offered to all Isle of Wight GP practices in order to further improve the quality, safety and cost-effectiveness of prescribing in primary care beyond essential services.

Quality Innovation Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) - The second part of the QPSS is the Quality Innovation Productivity and Prevention (QIPP). The QIPP is composed of two elements:

  • Polypharmacy - Supporting practices to undertake polypharmacy reviews for cohorts of patients stratified as being at most risk of adverse events due to their prescribing regime.
  • Prescribing Action Plans - Individualised prescribing action plans for each practice.

Specialist Recommended (High Cost) Drugs - Occasionally there are incidents where a patient requires a drug that is particularly expensive. The CCG has agreed to create a High Cost Drugs Fund, applied to a pre-approved list of items and subject to regular review.

Opioid Prescribing - Information and resources to help clinicians manage opioids more safely.

Over The Counter Medication (IW) - Guidance for treatment of conditions for which over the counter (OTC) medicines should no longer be prescribed.

Shared Care - Current Shared Care agreements used on the Isle of Wight.

PGDs - Access Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and Service Specifications

IW eRD - Electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD) enables patients on long-term, stable prescriptions to receive their medication at a pharmacy of their choice for up to 12 months, using the power of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS).
