NHS Fareham and Gosport Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been informed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that it has suspended Brockhurst Medical Centres registration with immediate effect.
The CQC decision comes after an unannounced visit it made to the Gosport practice on Monday (November 30). This followed an earlier visit in September after which the practice was placed in special measures.
Brockhurst Medical Centre was due to close at the end of December and, as a consequence, the CCG is now bringing forward plans to place the practices 5,800 registered patients safely with alternative practices in Gosport.
The transfer of patients to their new practice will now take place this Saturday (December 5). All patient records, including their prescription information, will be securely transferred to their new practice.
Patients do not need to do anything and they can expect to receive a letter, informing them of their new practice, over the next few days.
Sara Tiller, the CCGs Managing Director, said: Our immediate priority is to ensure that every patient registered with Brockhurst Medical Centre has ongoing access to local GP services.
We are working closely with the practice, local primary care providers and the CQC to ensure that all registered patients can continue to have access to any medical care they need over the next few days.
Patients who need urgent care can still call the practice number and we will direct them to the correct place for ongoing care.
We recognise that this is a difficult time for patients, and also staff at the practice. But we would ask patients for their continued co-operation at this extremely busy time to allow for their registration to be transferred via this process.
We are really grateful that they responded so promptly to our previous letter, asking about their preferences for their new practice, as this has enabled us to be in a position where we can now implement the transfer this weekend.
