New Southampton patient transport service goes live

The service, commissioned by NHS Southampton City Clinical Commissioning Group and Southampton City Council, provides transport to adults who do not have a safe, independent means of travelling to important primary care medical appointments, including to COVID vacciantions.

The COVID vaccination programme is progressing well in Southampton and it remains vital that as many people as possible receive the vaccination when it is their turn.

This new service uses two buses which will transport people across Southampton.  Initially it is offering offer free transport to people who are unable to travel independently to a COVID vaccination appointment, and in time will widen its remit to transporting people to important primary care medical appointments.

These buses will be running Monday to Saturday and must be booked in advance.  People can book by contacting the Social Care in Action team at:

Lines will be open from 09.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday, except bank holidays

Ricky Rossiter, Director of Integrated Services at Social Care in Action, said:

"We are very proud to be supporting people living in Southampton to attend their vital vaccination appointments.  We work with many people who struggle to travel independently, whether that is due to age, health or living circumstances, and our new service is there to support them.  At the current time we are offering free travel to vaccination and local GP medical appointments and I would urge people do contact us if they need our help.”
